Sometimes you just have to take a chance, a leap of faith, and hope you made the right decision. Whatever comes to mind, whether you’re talking about love, a new job, or like me, picking which flight I *might* get on to fly me to a tropical beach for a vacay with my girlfriends, you got to take a chance. Flying standby has it’s perks but there’s always the sad chance you just might not make it on a flight.
Sitting in the Philadelphia airport with a mere three hours of sleep under my belt, I’m sort of surprised I’m writing coherent sentences. It is, after all, 5:40am back home on the west coast. Sure I get up one or two times a week at 5:00am for spin class, but this morning has required strategic thinking.
Let me break it down for you.
At Airport 1, Airlines A Flight A is full and Flight B is pretty much full. Flight C leaves before B, but stops in Airport 2. Flight C is also nearly full from Airport 2 to Airport 3 (the destination). Airlines B Flight D just sends me back home (Airport 4) and that would end my trip, so let’s keep that as a last resort. There’s always Airlines C, but I’d have to fly to Airport 5 or Airport 6 to catch one of those flights. If I fly to Airport 6. where my roommate is, I could try to catching a flight with her. Only problem is Flight X, Y and Z are full, or very close to full.
Are you still following me? Didn’t think so… and I don’t blame you. You are still sleeping, you lucky ducks.

My boyfriend, Matt and I in Tahoe several months ago. Wanted to share.
Love this guy.

In the past, I’ve had horrible luck with ordinary headphones. My cat has bitten through the standard white iPhone headphones (three times!!) and other replacement headphones tend to stop working through one ear bud in a matter of weeks. Oh and then there’s the tangling. The tangling of the cords drives me absolutely insane! By the time I’ve managed to pull the cords apart, I’ve already wasted five minutes of my life.
Another downfall of regular, cheap-y headphones is that they fall out constantly, especially while I’m working out. The ear-buds are too large for my ears, but the standard iPhone headphones are one of those “one-size fits all” lies. One-size never “fits all.”

Cut to last year when I received vPulse earphones. My headphone issues were no more. No need to blast my music to keep out background noise. No more tangled mess to deal with! Velodyne earphones have a flat cable, which will minimize tangling.
Plus, these earphones work wonders while working out! They never fall out while doing cardio because the ear tips actually fit my ears. The product comes with multiple sizes to choose from since one-size doesn’t fit all.

Another plus: phone calls have never been so clear. I can talk on the phone, hands-free, and not have to worry about whether the person on the other end can hear me. The microphone quality is exceptional.
These headphones work wonders for keeping outside noise out. The other day I was riding BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and used my headphones to block out the loud screeching noise the train makes when it goes underground. I didn’t even have the headphones plugged into my phone.
I LOVE my Velodyne headphones so much that I carry them everywhere. They come with a zip-up protective carrying case, cable clip, and multiple sized ear tips.

Pin ItSimplicity is key this holiday season because who has time to for any elaborate DIYs? This year, instead of bringing a bottle of wine (or in addition) to a holiday party, give the host or hostess something that he or she will remember you by throughout the year.
My favorite plants are succulents because they’re low-maintenance and oh so pretty. Succulents come in all different colors, shapes and sizes. They also make beautiful centerpieces.
What you will need to make one succulent terrarium:
- a bag of rocks (I bought mine for $1 at the local Dollar Store, but you can always find “authentic” rocks if you just look down when you walk)
- a glass container such as a round globe vase, a deep bowl, or vase with a large opening (thrift store or Dollar Store finds work perfectly)
- cactus and succulent soil mix (between $5-10 at Lowes or OSH)
- 3 to 4 mini succulent plants
- optional: moss, mainly for looks
Gently place a layer of rocks at the bottom of the glass bowl. The rocks will help provide drainage for the plants.
Cover rocks with a half-inch layer of cactus/succulent soil.
Place succulent roots in soil, arranging them until you’re satisfied with the look. Cover the roots with soil. Optional: Add additional rocks or pebbles to the top, or cover soil with moss (this is all for aesthetics so it’s your preference).

- place the terrarium in partial sunlight
- water the terrarium every two weeks using a spray bottle (you don’t want to over-water them; better to under-water them if anything!)
- if any of the leaves fall off, you can propagate succulents from leaves to grow new plants (how-to instructions found here). HOW COOL!

One of my favorite desserts EVER are deep fried Oreos. They can occasionally be found at fairs or carnivals, but if you get the craving, they’re very easy to make. But be warned — one is never enough.
Deep Fried Oreos: a horribly unhealthy but utterly delicious dessert. Top it with powdered sugar and serve while warm. Put it over ice cream and you’ll be in heaven.
